The French group Alstom and the Algerian public company Ferrovial have created a joint venture for the construction, maintenance and production of tram rails. The agreement was signed in Algiers in the presence of Transport Minister, Amar Tou. With a capital of 2.1 billion dinars (about € 23 million), the company is owned 49% of Alstom, to 41% by Ferrovial and 10% by the Company for the subway of Algiers (EMA). Operational in 2013, the factory will be producing around 50-60 tracks per year and will create about 350 jobs.
